The Hubby's Humor

When many people meet my husband, Rob, they always say he is quite opposite of me. We know this is true, I am very outgoing and meet people fairly easily, and I can also start up a conversation with pretty much anyone. Rob on the other hand is a quiet guy, only interjects something when he feels he can really tender some knowledge on a subject or when he can get a word in edgewise while I take a breath. He is one of the smartest people I know, watches National Geographic to stimulate his mind while I am pecking away at his head to turn the channel to Dancing with the Stars. See what I am saying, we are very opposite. And thank God opposites attract because I can't imagine being with anyone else, he helps me keep my feet on the ground when I want to jump into some assenine situation without thinking.

The one thing Rob is insanely great at is injecting humor at times you would not expect. He has a very dry sense of humor, which I love. I experienced one of these moments last night while we were watching American Idol (no Discovery Channel for him last night, poor guy.) They were showing all the contestants at the beginning of the show and Sanjaya (poor, poor Sanjaya, taking the heat every week from the judges) was standing there smiling and Rob pipes up, "hey look, it's Sangria!" I giggled to myself and then quickly corrected him, "sweetheart, it's Sanjaya." He looks at me and says, "yeah, that's what I said, Sangria."

It may not be funny to everyone, but I laughed.

Randoms

Just a few things that have been on my mind and keeping me busy.

  • We bought 25 shrubs yesterday, yes I typed that correctly - 25!, we bought a bunch of bushes for our yard and Rob planted them all last night! Our yard looks awesome! Now the only thing we need is some new bark and the yard is practically complete. After way too much money and a lot of extremely hard work for Rob (remember, we live up on the hill; rocky soil and a pain to deal with it) it seems it has all payed off. I love Spring and now we have a beautiful yard to enjoy it in.
  • I have been without sugar for four weeks and five days, I'm stunned I have made it this far! I will say, I feel great; I have tons of energy and don't feel nearly as sluggish as I usually did. The Weight Watchers is obviously helping the body as well, I'm now thinking I will try to go without sugar for another six weeks and help myself even more with breaking the addiction I have for the sweet stuff. Except for Easter Sunday, that's when I plan on having some Cadbury Mini Eggs and baking this for Sunday brunch! Yummy!
  • Rob and I are going to Napa for our anniversary and I am beyond excited! This is our first vacation on our own where we haven't been traveling to see family since our honeymoon and it is definitely a vacation for adults. We are excited to tour the wineries and vineyards and have some wonderful meals at great restaurants. We are also taking a day to go to the coast and enjoy the ocean. The only thing that even dampens my thoughts about going on vacation is the fact this will be my first time away from Avery. It's scary to think about not being with her even though I know she will be spoiled rotten by the grandmommy. Stay tuned to find out if I even make it on the plane!
  • And finally, my daughter is becoming such a little ham. It's so much fun seeing her personality come out and I fear we are creating quite a little firecracker! She is at the point where nothing is off limits and she wants to see how everything works and what kind of trouble she can get herself into. Her favorite thing is getting ahold of my car keys and pushing the alarm button, which always scares the death out of me when I am trying to accomplish some task in the house, the car alarm starts going off and I start running around in circles to find where she is hiding the keys to turn it off. Toddlers! Here she is playing secretary.

This Answers so Many Questions!

I have a lot of people I don't know who read my blog, many email me and tell me they relate to some things I say, some comment on the actual blog and I'm sure others keep to themselves and just visit once in a while. I like knowing that people read my blog and may find something that interests them. I am always interested to know how people find my blog though. I was looking over some stats from this blog earlier today and there is an area where you can see how people are finding your site. There was one link from Ask.com and I was interested what a person had typed in that gave my blog up as a search engine result. Here it is:

'means to drink so no one else knows'

So obviously, if you're searching for a way to drink and don't want people to find out about it, my blog is very much the place to find the answers! Who knew?

Living the Good Life

I've been in a mood lately. The mood of wanting to live life rather than write about it, because as we all are aware, to have anything to write about you must be actively participating. It has been beautiful here in Utah, so beautiful that Avery and I have a new routine of eating breakfast and then going for long five mile walks. We stop at the playground and play on the swings and the slide and we truly enjoy the gift of amazing weather Mother Nature has bestowed upon us. Supposedly, the weather is going to be changing back to some nasty weather for a few days and I can honestly say I will miss our journey each morning. But we can never appreciate something without knowing the negative.

I started the walking phase somewhat by accident. We live in a neighborhood that is not flat whatsoever, lots and lots of hills, so many that the thought of taking a walk can be daunting because lets face it, walking hills all the time can be exhausting. I started Weight Watcher a few weeks ago and I wanted to make sure I got good excercise in everyday. I have a gym membership which I love, but I don't always have someone to watch Avery. I also have an eliptical machine but the thought of getting on that when I could be outside enjoying the weather was not appealing. So, the five milers began, and can I tell you how good of a workout you can get when you have to walk the hills? It's incredible, even Rob joined us on the weekend and said it was a great workout, pretty impressive for a cyclist. I now look forward to my walks (and starting some running) every evening. I can't wait to get up and start my day off on the right foot (pun totally intended!) And the added benefit from all this exercise and my new healthy eating habits is the fact I am ten pounds lighter. Many more pounds to lose before I am completely happy but all in all I feel great, and that's what is important.

Leaving Nothing Untouched

I hand wash the dishes in our house. Yes, it is the truth, something my friends are appalled at what with the stupendous invention of the dishwasher. For me, it just seems dishwashers never do a great job of cleaning the dishes, there are always little bits of food dried on them or rinse spots left behind. I usually end up spending more time cleaning the dishes when I get them out of the dishwasher than I would have if I had just hand washed them altogether. So it was a wonderful discovery for Avery the other day when I opened the dishwasher to put a few things in there since I was doing my monthly run of the machine I have no use for (I like to run it once a month just to make sure it is still in operating condition.) She was in HEAVEN playing with all the parts and I had a hard time removing her from her new favorite place.

When Avery discovers something new she is not too hip on being removed from it. All was not lost though because when I remove her from one place, she simply finds a new favorite, that of which this week are the food cupboards.

My toddler, the wrecking ball!

What I'm Reading

  • Dr. Seuss: Horton Hears a Who
Because I'm a mommy and who am I to deprive her of Dr. Seuss.
  • John Grisham: The Innocent Man
A true story about a man convicted of a crime he didn't commit. Gripping and terrifying.
  • Khaled Hosseini: The Kite Runner
I've already read A Thousand Splendid Suns by the same author but have not read the Kite Runner. I've heard it is even more amazing than Splendid Suns so I am looking forward to beginning it.

What I'm Listening To

  • Colbie Caillat -

    Colbie Caillat: Coco
I just purchased this CD after it was reviewed on a local radio station the other day. Easily, one of the best CDs I have purchased in a long time.
