It's my Perogative

As the song would say. I have changed my mind about the color of the curtains I am putting in my living room. Why, you ask? Well, the color of the orange was a bit too bright, the kind of bright where I could make a vest out of the fabric and say, "welcome to Home Depot."

Yeah, not a good color for the living room. The only good that color is for is if you don't want to get shot by hunters during the deer hunt.

Uh-Oh!

IKEA opened here in Draper about a month ago,,, I let the crowds die down before I visited,,, I can now say I'm an IKEA fan and will spend lots of money there. Yes, Rob's crying.

By the way, this will be my first purchase. I'm getting them in orange to hang in my living room because I think it will look beautiful against the brown leather and cream chairs. Just the pop of color I've been looking for!

Did you hear those screams of joy?

That was me shouting with absolute joy if you didn't know what the noise was. And what was all the noise about? HOBBY LOBBY OPENED!!!!

What was the other scream you ask? That was Rob,,, crying over how much money will be spent.

*This post will mostly be appreciated by Sus and Ashley, as they are Hobby Lobby freaks!*

Justice

I can't tell you how happy I was to see this when I was looking at the news this morning. I had read about this case a few months ago and was appalled at how this man was trying to take advantage of some working class business owners. I understand he really likes his pants but COME ON!!!! $67 million is a bit much. I understand the business owners once tried to offer the man a large sum of money to settle it but this man didn't want to accept it because he was "trying to prove a point" in regards to a satisfaction guaranteed sign in the business. In my opinion, the worst part about this case is the fact the plaintiff is a judge! I can't imagine how many times he has thought that people were using the justice system in a poor way and wasting tax dollars and a lot of his time. Unfortunately, he probably sees this case as worthy of the court's time, which it isn't. I'm happy to see the judge overseeing the case ordered the man to pay back the costs of what it took to fight this ubsurd case to the defendants. At least one judge got it right!

Leather is Better

I promised in an earlier post that I would put up some pictures of our new furniture and the big day has arrived (interesting how you take the pictures but then it takes over a week to upload them,,, because it takes time, and I don't seem to have a lot of that valuable asset at the moment.) We bought a mixture of leather and microfiber (yes Jen, thoroughly scotchguarded) and I love all the pieces, I think the room flows really well and if you knew how much thought went into what to buy, you would not be my friend. It's just that our living room (family room, whatever) is really oddly shaped and if we went with a sectional it would have cut off the room from the kitchen and made it look small, and if we went with a sofa and a love seat then it would have looked dumb. Also, our fireplace is in the strangest spot and when we first bought the house I loved the placement but now it's just a pain in my side (I'm watching my language because Avery has started talking, and we all know how that goes!) We haven't purchased side tables yet because I can't find anything I like,,, but I will, even if I have to leave the Salt Lake Valley to do so! I also want to put a disclaimer in that I know I don't have anything on my walls yet, as well as window treatments, because I didn't want to hang anything up since I knew we were going to buy new furniture, and you don't want to know how holes in walls annoy me, you just don't. So here are the pictures. I'm also including some photos of photos we had done when Avery was six weeks old because Ashley wanted to see them, and well, I was way too lazy and decided to just take pictures of the pictures rather than take them out of the frames and scan them. I LOVE the photo of Avery in Rob's hands, one of my favorite pictures of all time,,, in all the history of photograpy! The photographs were taken by Jolley Photography, who are amazing photographers and I would recommend them to everyone! (This is the 'don't sue me' part of my post, for posting the photos they took on my blog.)

Am I Getting Old?

I was on my way back from the gym tonight and couldn't find a good radio station to listen to. Suddenly, I have this thought, "let's see what the kids are listening to these days." What? How is it that yesterday I considered myself a kid and now I speak about them like the time was so long ago that I was one? Because I'm stubborn, I kept the radio station on for an entire song, but then I came to my senses and admitted that maybe I'm just not a rap fan,,, it couldn't be that I'm old. Right?

The Things That Matter

I'm tired. A good tired. Rob's parents are in town visiting and we have spent every day doing something or just spending time together. Rob's parents live in Texas so they don't get to see Avery too often. The last time they were able to spend time with her was during Christmas and as anyone who looks at the pictures on this website knows, she's grown... a lot. They were worried when they first showed up that she would not want to be held by them or even come up to them to give them hugs and kisses, but those worries were quickly dispelled the second I opened the door and the first thing she did was blow them kisses! The girl... she's a friendly one. Oh, and she said hi - many, many times.

It's been so nice seeing her spend quality time with her grandparents and I realized today I have enjoyed watching her so much that I have forgotten to take photographs. It's funny how most of the time I am constantly running to get my camera because of all the cute things she does, but today I was reminded of a conversation I had with Amy, a friend in my book club. She had stated that she always had such a hard time when her parents would come to visit because her father and mother were constantly running for the camera or video camera and it seemed they weren't living in the moment and just enjoying it.

Maybe I'm just learning to enjoy the moments,,, but I'm definitely going to grab the camera in the next few days to record her time with her grandparents.

I'm not above it!

If the dog who lives in the house behind me doesn't stop barking I'm gonna throw a piece of bad meat over the fence. Oh yes I will!

Okay, not really, but the BARKING, oh THE BARKING! MAKE IT STOP!!!!

Busy, Busy!

I've been quite busy as of late. And the good news is I am busy because of things I enjoy and not tedious day to day business. My friend Susannah is in town and I have been by to see her and her obnoxiously cute children, as well as go to lunch with her and some other acquaintances we knew in high school. My in-laws have also come to town to visit with us and to say Avery is in seventh-heaven with all the admiration of how cute she is is an understatement. I have also joined a book club and a mommy and me group that I was introduced to by a friend I made while taking Avery to Little Gym classes (who says only kids get to make friends?) And, drumroll please,,, we went in search of new family room (I usually call it the living room, but I have been corrected many times by the masses) furniture over Memorial Day weekend and it's now fair to say I am aching because of the cost. BUT, I LOVE our new furniture! It's beautiful and classy, yet ever so comfortable and I am sure it will be a pain to keep Avery's dirty paws off of it. You have never seen a woman wash her child's hands as many times as I have in the past five days. Pictures will soon follow but I figured I would update the blog and make many excuses as to why I haven't done so earlier. Stay tuned.

What I'm Reading

  • Dr. Seuss: Horton Hears a Who
Because I'm a mommy and who am I to deprive her of Dr. Seuss.
  • John Grisham: The Innocent Man
A true story about a man convicted of a crime he didn't commit. Gripping and terrifying.
  • Khaled Hosseini: The Kite Runner
I've already read A Thousand Splendid Suns by the same author but have not read the Kite Runner. I've heard it is even more amazing than Splendid Suns so I am looking forward to beginning it.

What I'm Listening To

  • Colbie Caillat -

    Colbie Caillat: Coco
I just purchased this CD after it was reviewed on a local radio station the other day. Easily, one of the best CDs I have purchased in a long time.
