Spelling

I've never been a big fan of people who will name their child a fairly common name and then decide they need to do some funky spelling to be different. I figure life is hard enoughalready , do you really want to torture your child by spelling Jennifer as Genniffer? And yes,,, I've seen that spelling and every time I would see her I would say "hey Gennif-fer... with a G" because I'm mean like that, and because the girl was nice enough to be able to take a joke, although I'm sure she wanted to punch me in the face every time she saw me. And that would have been okay.

So, with that all said, I'm trying to figure out which spelling I like for my unborn daughter's name better. Do I want to go with the common spelling, the spelling that most people would automatically think of? Or do I want to go for the old English way of spelling? I never thought such a simple decision would make me think so much. Oh,,, what's the name, you ask? The name is Hadley or Hadleigh. The middle name will be Evelyn after my grandmother. So do you like Hadley Evelyn or Hadleigh Evelyn? Decisions, decisions.

Comments

Hadleigh looks like it would be pronounced Had-Lay.
Hadley looks like it would be pronounced Had-lee. Which one do you want?

I kind of agree with Lisa C... but I like the classical spelling of Hadleigh. It seems more feminine to me.

Love Evelyn as a middle name... or even a first name!

I'm with Hadley with an ey. The other one looks like a surname here on Old England. Ey looks more feminine I think. BUt I'm with you on the spelling front. As someone whose name is spelled eitehr the Scottish way of the English BOY's way (thanks SO much Mum) I have ahd to spell it all my life and it gets SO tedious!

Or you could go for Hadlee....

Or Hadlie....

As someone who has a difficult name to both spell and pronounce, go with simple....Hadley......something she may have a chance of finding a toothbrush with it on. That's all I ever really wanted....a toothbrush with my name on it......

I think Hadley works. Only because the y looks great with the y in Evelyn. I like the double y thing.

What I'm Reading

  • Dr. Seuss: Horton Hears a Who
Because I'm a mommy and who am I to deprive her of Dr. Seuss.
  • John Grisham: The Innocent Man
A true story about a man convicted of a crime he didn't commit. Gripping and terrifying.
  • Khaled Hosseini: The Kite Runner
I've already read A Thousand Splendid Suns by the same author but have not read the Kite Runner. I've heard it is even more amazing than Splendid Suns so I am looking forward to beginning it.

What I'm Listening To

  • Colbie Caillat -

    Colbie Caillat: Coco
I just purchased this CD after it was reviewed on a local radio station the other day. Easily, one of the best CDs I have purchased in a long time.
