We have had a busy summer, made evident by the lack of my blogging. There are quite a few stories to tell but I'm going to begin my re-entry into blogging with a short post about Hadleigh's baptism.
I'll be honest, I was not very quick about getting everything going on our youngest daughter's baptism and I have only myself to blame (or I could blame Rob as well but you know how it goes, mom's end up planning everything, not only because we actually have the follow-through ability but let's be honest, I would have told him he had planned everything wrong and had to re-do everything he had already tried to accomplish. I'm picky that way.) I wasn't trying to delay Hadleigh's baptism but I wanted to make sure Rob's parents would be in town for the event and I needed to make sure we could plan it during one of their visits, especially since they and my mom are Hadleigh's Godparents. I wasn't very quick on the uptake when they came out for Christmas due to all the holiday events and Avery's birthday but when we found out they were going to be visiting in July I quickly dove into action.
Once all the paperwork was done with and our "do you know how important this is" classes were completed for the baptism we were able to choose a date. I ended up chosing July 12th and then found it was obviously meant to be, as did my mother, who had been harping on me about not getting our girl baptized more quickly... say, the day after she was born (mom's old-school, she still follows the rule that babies are supposed to be baptized within six weeks of birth and even went so far as to take - we call it stealing nowadays - holy water from her church to baptize me in the case that something horrible happened on our flight back to England to get me officially baptized at her home church when I was a baby. She's nutty sometimes but we'd have her no other way.) Anyways, back to the reason Hadligh's baptism date was so special. July 12th is my grandfather's (my mom's dad) birthday and also happens to be the day my grandmother passed away. We firmly believe that my grandpa told grandma she needed to return home that day because if she didn't she was going to miss one hell of a party. The fact that Hadleigh was baptized this day was not lost on us and we know our loved ones that have passed on were all there with us on our daughter's special day.
Hadleigh was very much like Avery during her baptism... peaceful and sweet. It's almost like they knew something important was going on and held off on any fussiness until we were finished with the important business. Our priest made sure to include Avery every time he could and we were thrilled with how well Avery behaved... but I'm happy to say she is usually pretty well behaved in church. In the end, Hadleigh had a beautiful baptism day and hopefully , she will always know how important a part she is in this world.
I don't have many pictures because to make a long story short, our main computer screen has fritzed out and we have a few more days until we receive the part to fix it (silly, but this is why I've held off on blogging for the last little while, as well as trying to get over a killer cold last week... blah, blah, blah, those are just excuses.) In the end, I have to wait until we can fix the computer to get the pictures photoshopped and ready to go but I do have one picture of our family right before Hadleigh was baptized.
I'll be back with more stories about our adventrues this summer. Heaven knows, we have a lot to document. As well as more pictures... there will be plenty more pictures! I hope life is treating everyone as well as it is treating us!
